So… What is up with Main Assist?

Salutations!

Well, in the 1.0 Patch, a new function was created so that players will be able to coordinate in PvE and RvR as a group. And this function is called “Main Assist”

How it works is that the leader of a group or war-band automatically has the right of Main Assist where other group mates will assist the leader. The leader can give the right of main assist to others as he/she sees fit.

I know that it is used quite a lot in PvE because it is easier to use in PvE, but how about RvR? The main focus of WAR?

I am not 100% sure how it is used in Keep takes. But I am pretty sure that no one uses it in SCs.

Why? Because no one really cares!

When you are in a SC, you will have to claim right to Main Assist. Which is something that is easily missed if a player wasn’t thinking about the usefulness of main assist.

Every time I saw the Main Assist button showing green, I will click on it in battle but I have never acquired a target no matter what I do. So I am not sure if the MA button works in SCs or not, at least I tried, and after a while it just sliped my mind and I pretend to ignore it.

I mean, really, in SCs it doesn’t really matter if you have the MA button or not. But with a pre-made group, (I am pretty sure) they uses it very effectively, because I have been killed from full health in 2 seconds before by 3 to 4 players.

I was in a SC the other day, and there were about 5 Bright Wizards. One of the player said that all the BW should focus fire on one target. And he started to type out the names of the target. I followed because I know how easy it is to kill a player if all the DPS focus fire on one person, but I am the only one that followed, even worst the person who is calling out target is changing his target quite fast, and in a hectic battle he/she sometimes called the wrong target.

Then I suddenly missed how in Guild Wars, anyone could call out a target, and once a target is called, the name of the target will be displayed on the chat window (you don’t have to type!) and finally the teammates will be able to push F1 to acquire the target. Its that easy! And everyone can call out the target, not just the team leader (I mean at least in PuG everyone calls targets, in a Pre-Made the tanks usually are the once that call targets).

Would it work a lot better if WAR has a system like that? The answer to that is… At least in my mind, it probably will work a lot better than the current Main Assist system.

What do you think? What is your experience with the MA system?

What could be done about the Spies and Leechers?

Salutations!

We have all heard or seen the problems of spies and leachers. But what can we do about this?

Mythic have already put down a few hurdles for these activities to be a bit harder to acheieve, for example, you can only have choose one of the other realm (Order or Destruction) per account on a server. And later on they created the idle hand system in SCs and oRvR events to prevent leechers.

So what is the problem?

The problem is, some players have some extra skills (money?) under their belt. They are so dedicated that they will spend another $39 (or use the trial keys?) to create another account and become spies to monitor the war band movement of the enemy realm. How about leechers? Well, they apparently were able to create some kind of add-on or micro that will run their characters into a specific point and leach the EXP and RP.

So what could mythic do?

Well, I have been thinking about this and come out with an idea for both problems.

For the Leechers in SCs.

Why not create a report system for the players in a SC? This report system will tell the server that a particular character in the SC is not doing its job and need to be removed. Now you might ask how can we know if that report is real or not? Well, it can be done this way, the person have to be reported by at least half of the SC population (or the team). So its kind of like a voting system, where a group of people will vote out one particular person that is not doing its job (kind of like the elimination process in Survivor).

For the Spies in oRvR.

I have not experienced it but I have heard that these spies are, how should I put this, lowbies (low level characters). That is one of the reasons why people were able to spot the spies, but what angers them even more is that they can’t do a thing! My suggestions here is to have a level cap for the RvR lakes in each Tier, I mean, if they are able to put a level cap for max level, why not put a limit for the min level? O.k. yes, they turn high level people into chickens, but what we will need here is to transport the low levels back to the war camp once they have entered an RvR lake, so for example, if a lv 5 is trying to enter the RvR lake in a T4 zone, then they will be transported back to the nearest war camp of that zone. It doesn’t hurt does it? I mean, low level characters shouldn’t go to highly dangerous place anyways, so this way the spies problem could be taken care off for at least until the spy player really want to be a spy and leveled his/her character to the appropriate level.

So, what do you think? Do you think these suggestions could help? Or it might create more problems?

What could WAR learn from GW? (no, not Games Workshop, its Guild Wars)

Salutations!

So, WAR is going to NY comic con on February 7th. Those who lives around the big apple should go and visit! For more details go to the official site of WAR!

Why am I telling you about this? Because at the end of the announcement, Mythic announced the very first RvR tournament! It is described as a 9 vs 9 two out of three Scenario match, where all characters are pre-made with similar gears.

Why am I excited about this? Because it shows a new way that Mythic can generate PR! And more PR the better! (Mythic have already successfully stir up the WAR community with the mysterious packages and letters! Way to go MYTHIC!) So now, what does this one piece of news related to the topic of this post?

Well, as a GW (Guild Wars) player, this tournament is very familiar to me. Guild Wars have the whole LIVE tournament style PvP celebrations (o.k. WoW has it too.), even though it only happened twice (the world tournament) due to the expensive nature of the event. (you know, air tickets for the teams, and the rents and the food and everything…)

At the end GW created a automated tournament system. Where the tournaments are scheduled every day, and one can earn tournament points in each daily tournament; to qualify for the Monthly champion ship tournament, one will need to have 20 tournament points (or something like that).

It would be interesting to see if WAR will be able to create something in that nature! Of cause it will probably be a separated server or something. But it sure will create a new field to explore for WAR.

What other things could WAR learn from GW?

On top of my head, there are two things.

One, Reconnection to Scenarios,

We all have experienced it, you are playing a scenario and suddenly you are lagging like crazy and after a minute a small box came out and said “you are disconnected from the server.” The only thing you can do at the moment is curse at your Internet Company and re-log into the game, and finally, re-que for another Scenarios that you waited for about 20 minutes to get in. Wouldn’t it be great if you will be able to re-log into the Scenario?

Guild Wars had done it with their Guild vs Guild and all the PvP arenas. It works 60% of the time, and that 60% makes people feel a lot better if they get disconnected.

Two, Punish those who leave an SC

We all dislike (I am being nice here) quitters. And there is a lot of quitters in an SC, especially the ones that your realm is losing badly (like 10 to 500). People can basically just stand in the Idle hand debuff area and get ported out or they can simply log out of the account and re-log.

This happens to GW a lot too, many times people will just leave the arena because the PuG doesn’t look very promising, until they came up with an solutions, punishing those who deliberately leave arenas, a player is punished if he or she leave an arena twice in a row.

What is the punishment?

Banned from participating any PvP activity for a short time (15 minutes, yes that doesn’t sounds too bad, but in GW that is a long time, because you can join any arena within 30 seconds most of the time)

Now this should work great for SC leechers, I mean if a player was removed from a SC because of the Idle hand, and that happened twice in a row, why not just ban this person from queuing up to SCs? Yes some people went afk because it takes a while to get into a SC, but once you accepted the que, shouldn’t you be right in front of your computer? So there is no excuse to be AFK after you have accepted the que.

On another note, people who just leave the SC are more or less cowards (in a role playing standpoint, you see?) I mean, come on, don’t pick your battle!

So…

What do you think?

What is your opinions about the new announced RvR Tournament that is going to happen in NYC?

Would you be interested to form a team to participate?

How about if its opened online just like GW had done? Would you form a team then?

Tell us what you think. Because you never know!
